‘Memories of a beloved Place’ is about memories of my childhood,
in a rural, traditional and in my opinion highly valuable, nature orientated world. Doing this project helped me to keep my memories alive and hopefully those of others..My prefered camera is the Rolleiflex, I love the way ’she’ alows me to look at the world.

I always take digital shots as a backup, here some of them.

This years topic is “work” which I found kind of boring as some other people in the class. I started photographing hands, which wasn’t so successful and difficult in terms of composition and access. Finally I remembered that I felt quiet overwhelmed when I first went through the shopping centre by the variety of products and their presentation so I started photographing the shops with their offers and I would like to present them in a small size. The observer can use a magnifier for having a proper look at the pictures.

»Returning home«

I went back to my home village kleinschelken/seica-mica in transilvania and spend 8 days there trying to find my cultural traces. I wanted to find out what happened to kleinschelken, which is one of many abandoned villages and cities created by the german minoroty, hundreds of years ago. Transilvania in german called Siebenbürgen was a former part of hungaria and austria, in which germans, hungarians and romaniens used to live together. After the communism collapsed 1990, nearly 95% of the in romania living german minority left their houses, land and animals, without considering that they were leaving and loosing their hole identity, past and culture.

As a child of a german mother and a german/hungarian father I found it natural speaking 3 languages and never thought about identity untill we imigrated to germany when I was 11 years old, where I suddenly was considered as romanien, which I never was, that was the first time I realized that I lost my cultural identity. Now 18 years laterI went back to my home village.

Living in the chappel,

my first place in London, even if these photographs seem to show a cosy place, I can tell you it wasent.

It was more like a squad but including bills and no warm water or electicity in the back of the chappel.

I lived there for 4 month, the first 2 weeks I’ve been on my own and spend a view spucy nights in this place, but it was definetly an expierience I don’t want to miss.
